The Ernst Schachtl Steel and Metal Engineering Company was founded in 1969
- Ernst Schachtl obtained his “Master Tradesman” Certificate from the Munich Chamber of Crafts and Trades graduating on October 26th 1968
- The company was founded on August 1st 1969
- For a period of fifteen years, the company focused on steel and metal processing, concentrating exclusively on the manufacture and production of aluminium windows, doors, garage doors and garden fencing
- In 1976, the company relocated to its current headquarters in Bahnhofstrasse in Vilsbiburg, and the Gergweis site was wound down.
- From 1984, proprietor Schachtl began a complete realignment of the company’s core business moving into the automotive industry. At this juncture, Ernst Schachtl also commenced production and repair of DB EURO lattice box pallets. At the same time, the manufacture and maintenance of a whole range of special containers commenced in the company’s own production facility.
- 1990 saw the opening of a satellite production facility in Neumarkt-St. Veit in Upper Bavaria, which was also capable of supporting the lattice box pallet maintenance and repair business.
- 1991 saw the founding of a second subsidiary facility in the Lower Bavarian city of Landshut, which was wound down in 2013 after production was transferred to a newer manufacturing facility in Maybachstrasse in Vilsbiburg.
- From 1996 the range of services offered by the head office in Vilsbiburg was expanded to include an in-house container washing facility capable of cleaning all manner of pallets and container types.
- The acquisition of the company by Ernest Schachtl’s daughter Monika in 2016 heralds a new chapter in the history of the company
The Ernst Schachtl Steel and Metal Engineering Company currently employs 55 staff split between the head office in Bahnhofstrasse and the subsidiary facility in Maybachstrasse in Vilsbiburg and the other satellite facility in Bahnhofstrasse in Neumarkt-St. Veit.
Ernest Schachtl is one of Germany’s leading repair centers catering for EPAL-EURO lattice box pallets and other specialist container racks.
Our company has:
2.947 m² of covered storage and production space
11.112 m² of outdoor storage space
In short, a total area of 14.069 m² is available to support the manufacture and repair of DB-EURO lattice box pallets and specialist container racks.
We are also a member of the European Pallet Association eV (EPAL) maintaining the required EPAL licenses for all of our various business units (EPAL box pallets). As our business units are individually licensed, we are obliged to manufacture and repair DB - EURO lattice box pallets and special load carriers in accordance with the UIC Codex. All work is carried out in keeping with the UIC-Norm 435-3 quality standard for European EUR-carriers manufactured from “Y” shaped steel (EURO-Lattice Box) with the following dimensions 800 mm x 1200 mm.
The transition from the DB-EURO lattice box pallet classification to the UIC-Lattice box pallet classification was concluded by EPAL on 01.08.2013.
Unannounced TÜV inspections are conducted by Bureau Veritas which has been directed by EPAL to conduct such random inspection visits. Such procedures ensure that we, as licensees, manufacture and repair DB-EURO lattice box pallets in accordance with the regulations.
